Muti-award winning Nollywood Director Obi Emelonye and his twin brother Uche Okonjo Emelonye turn 46yrs Old, says “I’m a happy 46-year-old man surviving on one kidney”

A celebrated Nollywood Director Obi Emelonye and his twin brother Uche Okonjo Emelonye turned 46 today.

Obi has been living with one kidney ever since he donated one to his brother.

The talented Director who is shooting his new ‘Igbo Movie’ in UK at the moment, has two amazing movies to his credit: Mirror Boy which featured Nollywod best, Genevieve Nnaji, and Last Flight to Abuja starring Nollywood Grade A’s: Omotala Jalade and Jim Iyke.

Both movies have won so many Awards.

The ever smiling and Multi-awards winning Filmmarker talked about what he wishes his brother and himself, except:

Today marks the birthday of my twin brother and I. Born into a brutal 3-year Biafran civil war, it is by His grace that we survived a desperate infancy. Looking back at those many years and the myriad highlights of a life fully lived, I can only say thank God and thank you mum.

Happy birthday Uche Okonjo Emelonye. We shared mum’s cramped womb without complaint. And we have run this race so far, hand in hand, side by side to this milestone. However, the many furlongs ahead hold more promise than we can even imagine.

People, I am now officially no longer a ‘young man’. However, I am not looking and more importantly, feeling terrible for a 46-year-old man surviving on only one kidney.

Kidneys perform many functions that are vital to good health. It is not unusual, however, to have only one kidney to do the work that two kidneys ordinarily do.

Medical society of sports however, suggested that people with one kidney should avoid sports that involve higher risks of heavy contact or collision. This includes boxing, field hockey, football, ice hockey, Lacrosse, martial arts, rodeo, soccer and wrestling. Anyone with a single kidney who decides to participate in these sports should be extra careful and wear protective padding. He or she should understand that the consequences of losing a single kidney are very serious.
