Chinweike Obi a 34 years old trader has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) after he was found with 6.3kilograms of cannabis carefully hidden in two of his bags containing food stuffs on his way to Dubai. The NDLEA Commander at the Lagos airport, Mr. Hamza Umar said the drug was concealed in a false bottom of the bags where he kept yams and garri. He said, ‘‘our search team detected 16.335kg of dried weeds that tested positive to cannabis at the bottom of the bag where the foodstuffs were kept.
He said the suspect is currently assisting the investigation team on the case. The commander said that obi, who claimed to be a clothes seller at Ikorodu area of Lagos was nabbed at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport during the screening of passengers on an Etihad flight. He added that 10 parcels of cannabis were hidden in two big bags. The suspect said that he was offered $1,000 to deliver the drugs in Dubai. He said ‘’A friend gave me the drug at Onitsha, he paid me $1, 000 to smuggle the drugs to Dubai but unfortunately he was arrested on the process of it.
Chairman of NDLEA, Mr Ahamdu Giade warned drug traffickers to quit the criminal act or face the consequences as contained in the NDLEA Act.
