The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel has been injured in skiing accident over the Christmas period.  As a result of the incident, some of her appointments have been canceled.
Merkel’s spokesman Steffen Seibert said today, Monday, 6th January, that the chancellor fell while on a cross-country skiing in the Engadin region of Switzerland while on vacation.
The chancellor sought medical treatment on Friday after her return to Berlin, and contrary to what she thought was bad bruising, a so-called infraction – an incomplete bone fracture was found in her pelvis, Seibert said.
Merkel had been advised by the Doctor to rest as much as possible over the next three weeks and not to fly.
Seibert said the chancellor would, however, continue working at home, and would also head Wednesday’s cabinet meeting.
