ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS SENT PACKING IN KWARA STATE, NIGERIA

By Akpabio Aniema

The Nigerian Immigration services in Kwara State Command have repatriated no fewer than 100 illegal immigrants in the state. The State Comptroller, NIS, Mr Nwachukwu Chime, said in Ilorin on Tuesday that the illegal immigrants who are from Niger Republic were arrested in December 2013 by the command. He added that they were arrested at different locations in Ilorin while they were trying to penetrate their ways into the city.

We have been getting information about the influx of Nigerians into Kwara State, especially Ilorin, under the guise of selling fruits, in recent times and it has been so alarming. We have decided to find out the reason for that.

To prevent security lapses, we have to send them out because they are illegal immigrants. They have no travel documents on them and they have no defined places of residence, neither do they have any document of any company inviting them to Nigeria for employment. They just come and lay about and they could be raw materials for insecurity. Since these people are not Nigerians, we don’t want them to stay here and cause insecurity that is why we arrested them. We rounded them up after we got a hint from the Sobi Army Barracks that some illegal immigrants were trying to enter Ilorin. We accosted them and no documents were found on them to back up their coming to this town.’’
