2015 Violence: El-Rufai Summoned By SSS, Declines Invitation

 Mr. Nasir El-rufai has been summoned by the State Security Service to appear on Friday at its Abuja headquarters.

Although the exact reason for such move is yet unclear, it is speculated that the SSS expect the ex-FCT Minister to clarify his statement about the upcoming 2015 election.

Mr. El-Rufai has declined the invitation.

Speaking at the Transformed to Transform Conference and Career Fair in Abuja on Wednesday, Mr. El-Rufai said, “The next election is likely to be violent and many people are likely going to die. And the only alternative left to get power is to take it by force, this is the reality on the ground.”

In his statement, Mr. El-Rufai predicted that the 2015 general election would be marked by violence, unless the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies agree to hold free and fair elections.

Mr. El-Rufai accused the INEC of incompetence, pointing out its earlier failure to organize credible elections in Anambra and Delta States. He expressed doubts that the Attahiru Jega-led electoral commission and security agencies would be able to hold impartial election in 2015.

The SSS, apparently appalled by such comments, demanded an explanation and issued a statement warning politicians against making provocative and disruptive comments.

The Media Adviser to Mr. El-Rufai Muyiwa Adekeye confirmed the invitation, saying, however, that his principal would not honour it. It will be recalled that there is a pending suit against the SSS over El-Rufai’s detention in Awka, Anambra State, hotel, during the governorship election on November 16, 2013.

Mr. El-Rufai told the Director General of the Service, Ita Ekpeyong, that he was willing to meet with him in his home or office or that in the alternative the SSS should produce a warrant of arrest.
