No fewer than 726 witnesses would be called before the Anambra State Governorship Elections Petitions Tribunal by the parties in the four petitions pending before the Justice Ishaq Bello-led tribunal which commenced pre-hearing of the petitions yesterday.
Also, 16 Senior Advocates of Nigeria showed appearance for different interest groups involved in the petitions.
Checks revealed that All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) whose victory in the November 16, 2013 governorship election is being challenged, would present 500 witnesses while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) petitioners would present 126 and 100 witnesses respectively.
All the petitions are challenging the declaration of APGA candidate, Chief Willie Obiano, as the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The four petitions mentioned at the resumed sitting of the tribunal yesterday, were those filed by Dr. Chike Obidigbo of APGA against Obiano and two others; Senator Chris Ngige against INEC, Obiano, APGA and ACD, PDP against INEC and 25 others as well as Tony Nwoye against INEC and 25 others.
