An Osun State High Court sitting in Ila-Orangun, headquarters of Ila Local Government Area of the state, has sentenced four brothers to life imprisonment for murder.
The trial judge, Justice J. O Oloyede, found the four men culpable in the murder of one Bamidele Ajiboye, a farmer in Oyi, Ifedayo Local Government Area of the state.
The convicts, Olabisi Adeniji, Adelowo Adeniji, Oladapo Adeniji and Kolawole Adeniji were said to have conspired to kill Ajiboye at Oyi farm on April 13, 2004 following a dispute between their family and the deceased’s family.
The Adeniji brothers, who had been standing trial since 2006, were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.
The state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in the Ministry of Justice, Mr Dapo Adeniji, told the court that the offences committed by the convicts were contrary to sections 324 and 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 laws of Osun State, Nigeria 2003
The convicts had earlier been sentenced to death by an Osun State High Court, but the Court of Appeal sitting in Akure presided over by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, later ordered for a retrial of the case at the state High Court.
Fresh hearing of the case later resumed at the Ila-Orangun division of the state High Court in 2009 but it suffered long adjournment.
