Which Way Nigeria? 25 killed, 3 banks razed in Adamawa

Communities in Madagali and Michika local government areas of Adamawa State sharing border with Borno State and the Cameroon Republic were in the wee hours of Wednesday under severe attacks by gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents, killing 25 persons while many others were wounded.

The Public Relations Officer of the 23rd Armoured Brigade, Yola, Captain Nuhu Jaafaru, confirmed the incident but declined further comments on the casualty figure. However, unconfirmed reports from the two local government headquarters stated no fewer than 25 persons have been killed by the insurgents.

Similarly, Chairman of Madagali Local Government Council, Mr. Ularama Maina and the member, representing Michika in the Adamawa State House of Asssembly, Mr. Adamu Kamale confirmed the attacks.

It was gathered that during the attacks, three commercial banks, police stations and shops close to the attacked police stations were razed as three villages of Shuwa, Kubla and Kiringa in Madagah Local Government Area were overrun by the insurgents, who also killed 11 persons in the process in the area.

Also attacked was a Catholic Minor Seminary in Shuwa, schools, a bishop house and the residence of a prominent businessman and a politician.

In Michika Local Government Area, two persons were reported killed while the divisional police station, an old generation bank and shopping malls were said to have been attacked after ransacking them.

The attack on the communities lasted for about three hours, saying the residents had been taking refuge in the nearby military base and police barracks.

Meanwhile, residents of the two local government areas have appealed to the Federal Government to take urgent steps to stop the attacks in Adamawa State and other parts of the North.
