Awka Catholic Diocese Loses Bishop

The Catholic Diocese of Awka in Anambra state has lost its Bishop, Dr. Simon Okafor. He died on August 29, at the age of 80.

The acting bishop of the diocese, Paulinus Ezeokafor who broke the news in a press briefing at Saint Patrick’s Catholic cathedral hall in Awka Tuesday said the diocese has declared since last Sunday, a 30 day mourning period for the Late Bishop during which the laity and clerics of the diocese would be praying for the repose of his soul in accordance with the Catholic doctrine and beliefs.

The Late Bishop’s good works, he said,  would take him to heaven,  but added that there was need for devotion by the faithful of the Catholic Church within the diocese for the Late Bishop.
