British hostage Alan Henning, who was threated by Islamic State militants in the David Haines beheading video, has been described as a “passionate” former taxi driver who “took that extra risk” to deliver aid.
Alan Henning was told not to travel to Syria but ignored the advice because he was so keen to help the country’s refugees, it has been revealed.
The 47-year-old – threatened in the latest IS beheading video – was warned by an aid agency of the grave dangers for westerners going to the war-torn nation, journalist Tam Hussein said.
‘He was told not go into Syria but insisted on going in because he had put in so much time and effort in the project,’ Mr Hussein wrote on Twitter.
‘Despite the advice given, Henning wanted to make sure aid reached the intended, this as far as I understand was his motives for going in.
The 47-year-old former cab driver, from the Manchester area, is believed to have been kidnapped around Christmas while travelling with a humanitarian aid convoy shortly after crossing into Syria from Turkey.
