National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh yesterday stormed Ojukwu’s graveyard in Nnewi with thousands of the party faithful to declare his intention to run for Senate in Anambra Central and cursed APGA defectors for allegedly using Ojukwu’s name for selfish reasons.
Speaking inside the Ojukwu mausoleum, Umeh said it had always been his tradition to consult the late Igbo leader while he was alive and now in spirit before taking any political decision. He regretted that many people had used Ojukwu’s name to tell lies in the past, adding that those who used the late Ikemba’s name to win elections in the past only to drop him later would face the wrath of the gods in Igbo land.
Umeh said though he had got many endorsements from several groups and individuals on his senatorial ambition, it was customary that he could not run the race without the approval of the late Ikemba.
He took a swipe at those who said APGA did nothing for them in the past, pointing out that the party gave such people electoral victories because of Ojukwu’s spirit.
While promising quality representation in the Senate, Umeh pledged to represent the voice of Ndigbo in the National Assembly and urged representaives of Ndigbo to go with truth always.
He warned the PDP against fielding multiple candidates for electoral positions, threatening that APGA would seek legal redress in court if the PDP dared to make such move.
Also, declaring his intention to run for the Nnewi North/South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu jnr after being presented by Umeh, said he would follow the footsteps of his father in a life of servitude for Ndigbo.
