Keshi stays – NFF President

The controversy surrounding the renewal of Stephen Keshi’s contract as Super Eagles Head Coach, will soon be over as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), is considering extending the coach’s contract.

Keshi’s future has been subject of speculation since his contract expired after Eagles crashed out of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil last July.

Despite that the former board never wanted to renew his contract, the Sports Ministry recalled the coach to handle the team’s 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tournament.

But Keshi failed to qualify the team for the tournament after securing eight points from the possible 24. He won two, drew two and lost two.

Last October, the present board sacked the coach, but President Goodluck Jonathan recalled him.

The President’s interest in Keshi is giving the NFF board members the jitters hence sacking him is no longer an option.

As a result, the NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, was constrained to tell the world that Keshi’s contract would be renewed on Friday.

According to him, sacking Keshi was not the solution to the problem confronting the team, noting that the NFF has commenced moves to extend the coach’s contract.
