A woman who brutally knifed her boyfriend to death has been told she will die in jail after being given a life sentence with no chance of parole.
Jodi Arias, 34, stabbed Travis Alexander 30 times before shooting him in the face at his home in Phoenix, Arizona.
The attack was so vicious that Mr Alexander was nearly decapitated.
His body was found in the shower of the property five days after the attack.
Arias could potentially have been given the death penalty but the judge ruled out the punishment as the jury had not reached a unanimous verdict.
One of Mr Alexander’s sisters, Tanisha Sorenson, screamed ‘burn in hell’ after the life sentence was handed out in front of a packed courtroom.
Arias had claimed the 2008 killing was in self-defence and that she had been a domestic abuse victim.
The dramatic trial was screened on national TV in the US and became one of the country’s most notorious cases in recent years.
She stuck by her version when addressing the judge at yesterday’s sentencing hearing but apologised for the pain she had caused her victim’s family.
