A teenage girl drowned after her ex-boyfriend leaned over to kiss her while driving and the car went into a river.

Katie Bagwell, 19, was being driven home from a pub in Somerset by former boyfriend Craig Chant when he suddenly leaned over to kiss her.

He lost control of the car and it plunged into the River Parrett, where it quickly began to fill up with water.

Chant was pulled to safety but Katie became trapped and drowned.

Chant was jailed for 21 months and banned from driving for four years after admitting to causing death by careless driving while under the influence of alcohol at Taunton Crown Court.
