Texas mom charged in pool drowning deaths of three of five kids

A Texas mother whose three oldest children drowned while swimming in their apartment’s murky swimming pool last month has been arrested in their deaths.

Patricia Allen, who took her five children to the pool on June 24 despite none of them being able to swim, was charged Friday with one count of injury to a child — a second-degree felony,the Dallas Morning News reported.

The 30-year-old was bathing in the shallow end with her two youngest children, ages 3 and 6, when Irving police say her three older ones ventured toward the deep end.

Her 10-year-old daughter, August Smith, was pronounced dead that same day while her two sons, Treshawn Smith, 9, and Anthony Smith, 11, died the next day.

Police said they initially struggled to find one of the kids in the pool because of how murky the water was.

The Morning News reported last week that the apartment complex, MacArthur Place at 183, has had previous issues with their two swimming pools during inspections. Those include the drains not being visible, cloudy water, and other unsafe conditions.

Allen’s single felony count, which represents all three drowning victims, is punishable with two to 20 years in prison.
