
Renowned reggae musician, Majek Fashek known for his famous song, “send down the rain” is now receiving care at a rehabilitation facility to address his drug addiction.
The musician who spoke to journalists at the rehabilitation facility in Abuja, “Synapse Services”, noted that he is on his way to recovery because he choose to listen to advise and seek treatment for his addiction.
According to him, his life experiences also contributed to his present situation which today has left him bankrupt and without funds to assist himself.
Fashek who was popular in the 90s for as a reggae star had left Nigeria to US but has been battling drug addiction upon return.
Speaking on his rehabilitation programmes, Majek Fashek noted that his previous treatment did not suit his personality as they were filled with restriction, but that his recent treatment allows him be himself and also receive treatment in a conducive environment.
“I want to appreciate all those who have contributed to help me access care, especially Chief Ayiri Emami, Monica Swaida who started the campaign and my brothers, Black Rice and Charly Boy who have stood by me during this period”.
Earlier, the medical director of Synapse Services, Dr Vincent Udenze noted that Nigerians should rather encourage and support Majek Fashek while also seeing him as a model to make those with addiction problems to seek help.
