Woman convicted of tricking her friend into sex by pretending to be a man

A woman has been convicted of tricking her friend into sex by posing as a man for two years.

Gayle Newland, 25, managed to disguise her appearance and even her voice when she met the other woman.

She also demanded her victim, also 25, wear a blindfold when they meet up and used a fake penis to have sex with her, the court heard.

The pair had sex about 10 times until the complainant ripped off her mask.

Newland claimed her accuser, also aged 25, always knew she was pretending to be a man as they engaged in role play while struggling with their sexuality, Chester Crown Court heard.

She said no blindfold was used and she did not, as accused, strap bandages to her chest and wear a woollen hat and swimsuit.

The jury of eight women and four men convicted the defendant, from Willaston, Cheshire, of three counts of sexual assault.

She was found not guilty of another two sexual assaults.

Upon hearing the jury’s decision Newland reportedly started crying and shouted: ‘How can you send me down for something I haven’t done?’

Judge Roger Dutton told her: ‘You have now been convicted of serious charges.

‘The consequences may be serious, I have to tell you that.’

She will be sentenced in November.
