Explosives were found Tuesday in packages that were loaded in Egypt on a flight bound for the U.S through London, according to reports.
Security officials said the parcels were flagged when they were detected by an X-ray scanner. The packages were checked, and explosives were found inside, authorities said.
The two packages together weighed about 22 pounds.
Egyptian news agency Aswat Masriya reported that the parcels, which contained printer ink cartridges, “appeared to be contaminated” and were set to be loaded on a DHL cargo flight.
The discovery immediately heightened fears that that the terrorist group ISIS, which took responsibility for last week’s attack in Paris, and the downing of a Russian plane last month, is setting its sights on the West.
Egyptian authorities have installed new security scanners and beefed up checks on baggage since the Russian plane crashed with 224 people on board.
