Actress Mischa Barton’s post about Alton Sterling may be the most insensitive thing in the history of the Internet

Mischa Barton may not be the first celebrity you think of when it comes to social justice, but the former O.C. actress took to Instagram on Thursday to address current events — and her delivery is upsetting a lot of people.

Mischa shared a photo of herself — seemingly relaxing on a yacht with a glass of Rosé in hand — and captioned the now-deleted snap with a message about 37-year-old father of five Alton Sterling, who was murdered by Baton Rouge, LA, police officers this week. “I’m truly heartbroken to watch videos like the #altonsterling execution,” she wrote. “Somebody make change. We need gun control and unity. And a real President so think about that when this election is around the corner.”

It wasn’t long before Mischa’s followers began making comments of their own, many of which called out the actress for her “self-important” photo choice. “You pouting on a yacht, drinking . . . This is supposed to reflect your sadness about the Alton sterling case? It’s all bout u,” one person wrote. Another took a more direct approach: “Sweet Jesus, this is some tone-deaf rich person sh*t right here,” with the majority of those responding that it was hard to “take her seriously” because of the snap.
