The superstar, who is currently in the UK with her Formation world tour, was a few seconds late in joining the crowd to give Serena a standing ovation after her victory over Angelique Kerber.

Her delayed reaction prompted a flurry of tweets from fans watching at home, with one saying: “Beyoncé just came to support. She don’t know a thing about tennis.”

Another said: “I think Beyonce may be confused at Wimbledon. It’s not ‘All The Single Ladies’, it’s ‘All the Ladies Singles’….”

“Beyoncé looked so confused at the Wimbledon championships today, at least she was supporting Serena,” another said.

Beyonce sat alongside husband Jay Z to watch Serena win her 22nd Grand Slam title.
