They want to silence me but Jesus is on the throne – Fani-Kayode

Femi Fani-Kayode, spokesman of the presidential campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says there is a plot to silence him, but Jesus will see him through.

Describing the last two months as the worst phase of his life, the PDP chieftain said he remains resolute.

He said he was being targeted for his criticisms of government, maintaining innocence.

“This was the worst experience of my life but God was with me all the way.I suffered immeasurably but I count it all as joy. I am innocent of all charges and I look forward to defending myself vigorously in court,” he said in a statement.

“These charges are politically motivated and I have been severely punished for my political views and criticisms of the government. They are trying to silence me, break me, discredit me and destroy, but as long as Jesus is on the throne this will never work. I am strong and I am bold and the struggle will continue.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFFC) detained Fani-Kayode at its Abuja office after he honoured the agency’s invitation on May 9.

He was later flown to Lagos, where he was arraigned on a 17-count of alleged money laundering, criminal conspiracy and fraud.

Muslim Hassan, a judge of the federal high court Lagos, granted the PDP chieftain a N250 million bail on July 4, and he regained freedom late Friday.

Hours after joining his family, Fani-Kayode went on social media to express joy.

“Free last: thanks be to God. 67 days in detention but still standing strong. The struggle continues. Thanks for the prayers and support,” he wrote.

Responding, Musiliu Obanikoro, former minister of state for defence, who is also under investigation by the EFCC, advised Fani-Kayode to “do a thorough medical checkup”.

“@realFFK Thank God for your life my brother. Please do a thorough medical check-up of your body, just to play safe,” Obanikoro said on Twitter.

Still swinging in the mood of Joy, Fani-Kayode posted a picture of him carrying his son, and he wrote: “Back with my boy … thanks be to God.”
