A terminal at John F Kennedy International Airport evacuated amid fears of ‘gunshots’ may have been because of Usain Bolt.
The area was cleared by police following reports of ‘banging’ at Terminal 8 in New York.
But the raucous took place at the precise moment the Jamaican sprinter won a gold medal for the 100m race.
Following the initial panic, NYPD’s Special Ops team tweeted: ‘All terminals searched & cleared.
‘Negative results. All affected terminals will resume operations shortly. No shots were fired.’
The reports of shooting emerged ‘around 9.30pm’ US time, which was when Usain Bolt crossed the finish line and won the 100m race, his third gold at Rio.
Passengers evacuated from the terminal vented their frustration on Twitter.
The Port Authority later confirmed on Twitter that ‘no gun shells or other evidence of shots fired has been found’.
