Breath-taken superlative, preeminent, these are few words to describe “the Iri ji/iwa ji Ndi-Igbo which took place in Frankfurt, Germany, last Saturday, 27th 08,2016.

Iri-Ji (New Yam Festival) is one of the most significant cultural events of the Igbo people of South Eastern Nigeria. It marks the end of a farming cycle and the beginning of another. The Iri-Ji festival encapsulates the cultural and spiritual connections of the seven Igbo speaking states of Nigeria: Imo, Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Delta, Ebonyi and Rivers. Yam is the staple food of most West African countries especially Nigeria and Ghana and in particular the Igbo people of Nigeria. Yam planting and harvesting define the life cycle of the people. The festival therefore has important cultural and spiritual significance for the people as it defines their survival, wealth, future and procreation. Iri-Ji is the one cultural event that unites the Igbo people from all over the world as a means of reconnecting with our roots as well as sharing our cultural heritage with our host countries. The ceremony is meant to express our appreciation and thanks to God and our ancestors for abundant harvests as well as pray for sustenance and future growth.
The Augsburg Igbo cultural Union’s Chairman and President of Ndi Enugu Germany (an umbrella Organization of all Enugu State union’s in Germany), Engr. Oge Ozofor, who spoke with Diamond Celebrities said, “the festival was wonderfully and perfectly organized. The love and unity was displayed, in most perfect excellence and beauty” he also emphasized.

Engr Ozofor – “It was wonderfully and perfectly organized. Very peaceful with visible joy , love and unity on Display. The emphasizes were on the Display of our Igbo culture and Omenala. These are what we have and no body beats one in his game. That is one reason the invitation of ‘modern established’ musicians such as Flavour, was not the Philosophy ( because our masquerade will instead watch him and therefore not display to enlighten our kids).
The Iri/Iwa Ji NDIIGBO in Frankfurt was an un-describable, Superlative success that brought out tears of Joy to those who witnessed it.”
