Infertility in families blamed on men

Men have been identified in the country as being largely responsible for infertility challenge in many homes in Nigeria.

Speaking, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, ahead of the 6th annual international conference of Association for Fertility and Reproductive Health coming up in Port Harcourt from  September 28 to 30, Professor John Ikimalo said that men should support their wives to overcome fertility related challenges in their homes.

Professor Ikimalo, who is the Chairman local organising committee of the conference, with the theme Recent Advances in Assisted Reproductive Technology, said that science had proved that using drugs and diet to treat fertility problems in men has been very unsuccessful, adding that men should not hesitate to embrace new technology to resolve fertility challenges.

“Men in Nigeria contribute significantly to infertility. There are more men causing infertility than women. We want to tell you that men are equally the cause of infertility in the country.   So the men should take it seriously to support their wives to solve the problem.   The revolution provided by Advance Reproductive Technology, ART is a good step,” he said

Ikimalo who was flanked by Dr   Ngozi Orazuike,   Dr Preye Fiebal during the media interaction, said that infertility was treatable with advances in   reproductive technology, adding that men should encourage healthy lifestyle.
