Wayne Rooney set be the highest-paid footballer on earth

Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho yesterday admitted the United and England captain could leave before the Chinese transfer window closes next Tuesday, in a £52m deal.

United’s record goalscorer has a £1million-a-week offer on the table to play in China.

Rooney has started just one game in the last nine.

He has 18 months left on his current £250,000-a-week deal but United do not seem keen to take up their option to extend it for a year.

The move will make him the highest earning football player on earth with a whooping salary of £1million per week.
