Tongues wagging as Atiku congratulates Trump…

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated US President Donald Trump over his vindication on allegations that campaign colluded with Russia to influence the US election in 2016.

Trump had been accused of conspiring with Russian officials to influence the election, especially against Hillary Clinton, his then rival.

But the report of Robert Mueller, US special counsel, said investigation did not find sufficient evidence on the allegation, or that the US president obstructed justice.

Writing via his Twitter handle on Tuesday, Abubakar, who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2019 elections, said by being vindicated, Trump would have a clearer coast to record more successes in the US.

He added that the investigations teaches Nigeria how to apply rigorous due process in its current challenges.

Abubakar wrote: I congratulate President @realDonaldTrump on his vindication by the Robert Mueller report. It is my hope that the lifting of this cloud will give room for further successes by the 45th President of the United States.

“I trust Nigeria can learn from the application of rigorous due process to get to the truth of our current challenges. Congratulations once again.”

The message triggered various reactions; while some endorsed it, others accused him of “eye service” while some wondered if it was necessary.
