PEOPLE announces 2019’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’

He’s one of the youngest EGOT winners in history. He and his wife are one of Hollywood’s iconic couples. And now, John Legend is PEOPLE’s 2019 “Sexiest Man Alive.”

The magazine announced that the “All of Me” singer would hold the title awarded last year to actor Idris Elba, a comparison he poked fun at.

The cover of the issue to be released Friday shows Legend, who is 40, wearing an unbuttoned, wet, blue shirt and standing in waist-deep water.

The 10-time Grammy winner told the magazine that the honor comes with some pressure since he’s following Idris Elba, who was last year’s winner. Legend said that “is not fair and is not nice to me!”

Legend said his wife is proud of him.

“I’ve finally impressed her,” he said.
