President Trump has become the third president in U.S. history to be impeached. The House passed both articles of impeachment: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
The historic votes charged the president with “high crimes and misdemeanors” in connection with a Ukraine pressure campaign.
For the third time in the nation’s history, the House of Representatives voted to impeach a sitting president, following a daylong debate on whether Trump violated his oath in pressuring Ukraine to damage a political opponent.
The impeachment process started after a whistleblower raised concerns about Trump’s July call with the president of Ukraine.
Trump is the third president to be impeached by the House in the nation’s 243-year history.
The U.S. Senate will now take up the high crimes and misdemeanors trial in January 2020.
