Nigerian Government Hikes Fees In Unity Schools By Over 100%

The Federal Government has announced over 100 percent fee increment for new students going to Federal Unity Colleges, otherwise known as Federal Government Colleges across the country.

New students are expected to pay N100,000 as against the N45,000 paid last year.

A circular bearing the breakdown of the fee was issued to all principals of Federal Unity Colleges from the Office of the Director of Senior Secondary Education Department of the Federal Ministry of Education, reference number ADF/120/DSSE/I, dated 25th May 2023.

According to the circular, titled, “Approved fees/charges for Federal Unity Colleges (1st Term) for new students,” signed by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajiya Binta Abdulkadir, new students are expected to pay N100,000 instead of the previous N45,000.

Daily Trust Saturday reports that the latest fees/charge increment will affect all aspects and activities of the school, including boarding fees, uniforms, textbooks, deposits, exercise books, prospectus, caution fees, identity cards, stationery, clubs and societies, sports, extra lesson and insurance, among others.

“Please be informed that the ministry has approved only the under listed fees and charges for all Unity Colleges,” the memo read.
