Davido Couldn’t Sleep In The Room P-Square Gave Me – May D

Afropop singer May D has shed more light on his fallout with P-Square, revealing that Davido could not sleep in the room the Okoye brothers gave him.

May D, born Akinmayokun Awodumila, joined Square Records, the record label owned by Peter and Paul Okoye who made up the group P-Square, in 2011.

However, his time with the label was short-lived as he was dropped in August 2012, a decision that he believes derailed his meteoric rise.

The ‘Ile Ijo’ singer reflected on his experience with P-Square in the latest episode of The Honest Bunch podcast published on Monday.

“When Davido was running from his dad, he came to my room in P-Square’s house, he was like, ‘May D, is this where you stay? I can’t sleep here oh.’ If I had a room, it would have been cooler,” he said.

May D further claimed that during his time with the label, he didn’t own a bank account, “It’s only when someone has money that he opens an account,” he said.

According to him, there was a time he ranked above Wizkid and Davido in the Nigerian music industry.

“Then it was Wizkid, David, and I. I was even like bigger. Wetin be ‘Holla at Your Boy’ compared to ‘Soundtrack?’” he stated.

The 40-year-old singer noted that parting ways with Square Records was the turning point in his career.
