I Still Don’t Know The New Nigerian Anthem – Alex Iwobi

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi made a surprising confession: he hasn’t learned the lyrics to Nigeria’s reintroduced national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”

During the “Is This Seat Taken?” podcast, hosted by Chinasa Anukam, Iwobi revealed that he resorts to closing his eyes and placing his hand on his chest during international matches when the anthem is played.

When asked directly if he had learned the new anthem, Iwobi replied candidly, “No. When it comes on, I literally stand there and close my eyes.”

The reintroduced anthem, originally written in 1959, has sparked debate among Nigerians, with some prominent figures refusing to adopt the change. Iwobi’s admission adds a lighthearted touch to the controversy.
