I Paved The Way For Smoking Cannabis Onscreen — Terry G

Nigerian singer Terry G has stirred controversy after claiming he pioneered the boldness Nigerian artistes now display in smoking cannabis on screen.

In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, the eccentric artiste said his personal “sacrifice” made it easier for today’s musicians to openly use cannabis in music videos.

He wrote: “No hard feelings, it’s all love, but no forget say if no be my sacrifice, none of your fav go get liver to smoke Igbo for screen.”

Terry G, born Gabriel Oche Amanyi, is known for his unconventional style and energetic music, blending Afrobeat, Highlife, and Hip-Hop.

However, his claim has drawn mixed reactions, with fans and critics pointing out that legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was publicly known for smoking marijuana both onstage and on screen long before Terry G’s emergence.
