Nollywood Actor and producer Sylvester Madu spoke out against the recent developments in Nollywood.
The talented actor who also has a clothing line thinks there is need for a change in Nollywood.
Talking to Diamond Celebrities, Sylvester said “Acting should be of merit and not bought”.
He said “many people entering the industry now are not going through the right channel; the producers as well are not helping matters at all, making it difficult for directors to work with talents”.
Hear is an excerpt from his interview with Delia Innoma:
“All of you desperate girls and guys that want to be star actors and actresses by all means and paying producers or marketers to work for them instead of being paid for your talent “STOP IT! Please don’t spoil Nollywood for us.
To be a star is not by force. Remember this: Stardom cannot be bought, it can only be earned. If you buy it, it will only be star-doom for you. If you are talented be patience and work harder, one day you will be the next Genevieve or Omotala.
And you ‘producers’ taking advantage of this people its doom for you, because one day what goes up must come down. Be warned!
In our days you go for an audition and prove yourself. If you are table casted for a role it’s based on merits and records of your previous performances not because you paid someone to give you a job. Now they don’t care about good acting but what they can get, and you as a director will be forced to use an artist that is not the right cast.
Acting is a talent and should be based on merit and not bought”.
We are beginning to think that this also is one of the reasons why some Nollywood movies are underrated.
We hope this will get across.

I’m a novel and script writer. I appreciate nollywood: i think i have a wonderful script to donate to Nolly wood Nigeria. My contact is 08038641784, my Email: kingegbuka@hotmail.com
HOW IS YOUR FRIENDS FOR EXAMPLE JIM IYKE, ZUBBY MICHEAL, EMMA EHUMMADU.
I think you should seriously think about going back to primary school and learn English again. How can you claim to be an actor yet you are completely incomprehensible (that means I cannot understand your attempts at English). Perhaps you too are part of the problem, ignorant people without basic English forcing themselves to try and act, I am not surprised the producer tried to exploit you. However if you insist that you must act, then try Igbo language movie productions.
