Nollywood Icon Amaka Ene Igwe died at the age of 51.
Amaka is considered to be the most important WOMAN in the creation & evolution of Nollywood.
She started out as a young Lecturer Assistant at the then Anambra State University, but then dedicated her young adult life to the creation of CHECKMATE (a Soap-Opera that leveraged on the previous success of Lola Fani-Kayode’s MIRROR in The SUN). Her star actors were the 1st Stars of Nollywood. Her RATTLESNAKE movie trilogy, though came out a few weeks after Living in Bondage, was the 1st artistic success of Nollywood’s videography.
In recognition, she was awarded national honours as Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR). Until her death, Amaka was on set of her current movie ‘Goodnight’.
She made impart in the lives of many Nollywood celebrities if not all, The Nollywood stars listed Kenneth Okonkwo, Segun Arinze, others, took to Diamond Celebrities to pay their tribute to Amaka… Indeed, Nollywood has lost a great talent. May her soul rest in peace…
Okey Bakasi: Amaka Igwe was the most creative film maker in Nollywood. An Encyclopedia of Nollywood history and knowledge… An excellent professional and a shining example for all women… She has left a big vacuum in the Entertainment Industry. She was always willing to share knowledge. The history of Nollywood won’t be complete without her. I’m still in shock. Rest in the bosom of the Lord, Amaka, you have done well. .
Kenneth Okonkwo : Nollywood has lost a rare gem. Amaka Igwe is an epitome of intelligence, firmness, godliness, hardwork, humility and humanity. She will be sorely missed…
Segun Arinze : She was fine writer and director who knew her onions. And she was always very blunt when discussing issues with you. She had respect for talent. So sad! Gone too Soon…
Jeff Ogboso: She has a good heart, always encouraging up and coming actresses and Actors This is really sad. May her soul rest in peace…
Johnpaul nwadike: Is a pity, Nigeria/Nollywod have lost an icon. It’s so sad. This was a lady who contributed to the growth of many stars. I only met her twice and was suppose to be part of her soup. I wept when I heard about the lost. It’s a pity we lost a great Nollywood icon. May her gentle soul rest in peace… My condolence goes to her husband, Kids and all family members. They should all take heart…
Dickson Iroegbu The beginning has become the End…Amaka Amazon Igwe salutes and bows! Drum beats, drum beats, drum beats; Accolades and Accolades for the Accolades…the Visuals have become Words.
