Ebola: Two dead, 20 others hospitalised over excessive salt consumption

At least two persons have been feared dead with 20 others hospitalised in various hospitals in Plateau State after consuming excessive quantity of salt and bitter kola to prevent Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) attack following a viral message on social media that it could prevent the spread of the Ebola virus.

A medical worker at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital, told Punch’s correspondent that they are in various hospitals in the city.

The source, who does not want his name in print because he was not authorised to speak, said most of the patients rushed to the hospital were hypertensive while others showed symptoms of stooling due to excessive consumption of salt.

According to him, most of the patients are women and children…

In Abuja the Federal Government advised Nigerians to disregard the text message and postings on social media that hot water and salt may be used to prevent Ebola infection and cure infected persons.

    I disagree. We need to promote all conceivable methods of cure. Sacred water, salt, homeopathy, prayer. Anything. The reason that we need to promote this is because this world needs a lot fewer stupid people
