President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday said the current happenings in the country reminded him of the troubled journey of the biblical Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land.
The President said all obstacles in the way of Nigeria’s progress would be crushed the same way the Israelites overcame the various challenges they encountered on their way and made it to the Promised Land.
Jonathan spoke at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life Camp, Gwarinpa, Abuja, where he held a special thanksgiving for the success of the wedding of his foster daughter, Inebharapu.
Inebharapu’s wedding was held on Saturday.
He said, “Whenever I think about all these happenings in Nigeria, I remember the journey of the Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land.
“When God promised they were going to be given a land full of milk and honey, ordinarily one would have expected them to walk in and get the milk and honey.
“But they had to cross the Red Sea that was a challenge; they had to meet people like Annas and others, that was a big challenge but because God wanted them to be there, they were able to get there.
“Surely, we will get to where we want to go as a nation. We may have the road bumps, we may have the obstacles but we will crush them and pass them.”
Jonathan said he was in the church with his family to thank God for the success of their daughter’s wedding.
