Curtis Jones, once the youngest convicted murderer in US, is set to be released from a Florida prison more than 15 years after he gunned down his father’s girlfriend.
The pint-sized shooter and his 13-year-old sister, Catherine Jones, were convicted in 1999 in the shocking killing, Florida Today reported.
The young siblings hatched the murder plot together, arming themselves with their father’s pistol as they prepared.
They originally planned to slaughter their father and an adult male relative who lived with them as well, but they grew frightened after the first kill and ran into the woods.
The brother and sister claimed they were sexually abused by the male relative. Their father and his girlfriend didn’t believe them, despite a child services report acknowledging there were signs of abuse, so they took matters into their own tiny hands.
Curtis was the gunman, but his sister said the killing was just as much her doing.
“I actually took the fingerprints off the gun and wiped it down,” she told Florida Today.
The two pleaded guilty to murder rather chance a life sentence at trial and were sentenced to 18 years apiece.
Curtis asked his lawyer if he could take his Nintendo games with him to prison.
Now 29, he has grown up behind bars. He has a tattoo of a panther on his left arm and “MOB” across his stomach, according to corrections records.
He escaped from a juvenile facility in 2004 but was caught the next day, Florida Today reported.
His sister married a pen pal in prison and has given media interviews. She dreamed of opening a restaurant when she got out.
Curtis, however, has shunned the press following his childhood of newspaper headlines and TV reports.
He was ordained a minister while behind bars. Records show he’s due to be released on July 28, pending any adjustments.
