Return of N12m: Enugu govt offers cleaner automatic employment, names street after her

A cleaner attached to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, in Lagos, Miss Josephine Ugwu, who picked N12 million belonging to a passenger at the airport and returned same to the owner intact will be offered automatic employment in the  Enugu State Civil Service.

In addition to that, a street will also be named after her in Enugu to immortalize her in appreciation of the unequalled display of honesty by that act.

This was unanimously arrived at during the sitting of the State House of Assembly, yesterday.

Members of the State Assembly led by the Speaker, Mr. Edward Ubosi also resolved to write Miss Ugwu a formal letter of recommendation to serve as an inspiration to other Nigerians.

Member representing Awgu North constitutency, Mr. S.K.E. Ude-Okoye, during the debate on the floor of the House on the issue, said: “I do move that the House should urge Enugu State government to name a street in the state capital after her for her truthfulness and honesty.”

Many contributors, including the chief sponsor of the motion, Mr.    Matthias Ekweremadu, who is the Chief Whip, eulogized the cleaner for her rare character, while the Speaker described Miss Ugwu as “a true daughter of Enugu State and Igboland.

“I thank you in a special way because you have proved to be a true ‘Wawa’ woman.’  ‘Wawa’ means ‘no, no.’ You said no to temptation. Keep it up.”
