A Nigerian civic group has petitioned the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunization, GAVI, requesting that the organization suspend the recent appointment of Nigeria’s immediate past Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, as chairperson of its Board of Directors.
In the petition signed by its chairman, Olanrewaju Suraju, the Civil Society Network Against Corruption, CSNAC, said its call for a review of Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala’s appointment was based on the circumstances surrounding the suspicious refund of $2.2 million paid by Nigeria to GAVI.
While noting that the appointment of the former minister as chairperson of the Board of Directors of GAVI brings to fore a case of conflict of interest in the refund of the money, the group noted that, “the appointment also shows that she was being rewarded for her “loyalty” to the organisation at the detriment of her country.”
The refund made without consultation with the Ministry of Health also exposes the gross abuse of office by the former minister, according to the group.

Busy body CSNAC, if you are that busy, most of our corrupt politicians should be under arrest for countless allegations for looting public funds. Madam Okonjo-Iweala is not a politician, and she will never be one!
Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is unperturbed by this planned petition, nor is GAVI perturbed by CSNAC’s show of shame. It is all a part of their failed plan with other media mumus in the nation.
CSNAC focus on your job, which is first within your locality. GAVI is an international company of good conduct, if there be any reason to doubt their choice for leadership, they do not need CSNAC to do this job for them.
CSNAC should know better than to think this petition would move GAVI to throw a woman of substance like Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to the dust just because some hungry fools were not allowed to loot public funds. Have you considered that Okonjo-Iweala’s reputation is too clean to be tarnished by attention seeking CSNAC?
God will punish those that are lying against the very competent former coordinating minister of the economy, Dr Okonjo-Iweala. She has continued to remain victorious in spite of all the unsubstantiated allegations made against her.
This CSNAC sounds to me like a toothless dog, finding recognition and expression of importance. That won’t come by trying to pull down a successful person like Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. The group needs to rethink, re-strategise and reorganize itself.
Okonjo-Iweala is a world class economist; well-deserving of her international appointments. CSNAC is well aware of this; they are only living in denial of the reality. The earlier they accept and come to terms with the fact that Okonjo-Iweala is an icon of success and excellence, the better for them.
This Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC) group should find other productive endeavours to engage in instead of disturbing Okonjo-Iweala every time. These stories are spurious, baseless and intended to damage Okonjo-Iweala’s reputation.
When will this people writing this petition leave this woman alone and do something more productive with their time?
Those that wrote this petition should search the web and see how much Okonjo Iweala is accepted by the global community when she it was announced that she joined Gavi.
GAVI is promoted by Bill Gate who understands that Okonjo Iweala has so much to contribute to the organisation. Therefore, I am certain that the petition will be thrown out of the window just like a trash.
Stupid talk, who amongst the leaders is free from corruption
She ruined her own country
