After 11 weeks detention, journalist Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo regains freedom

About 11 weeks after her detention, journalist and blogger, Miss Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo was released on Monday from Port Harcourt prison where she was remanded in a defamation case, after meeting her bail conditions.

Kayode Ajulo, a lawyer and human rights activist, said Ms. Omololu-Olunloyo, a social media enthusiast and daughter of a former governor of old Oyo State, Omololu Olunloyo, was released Monday afternoon.

“We’ve finally secured her release,” Mr. Ajulo said.

Olunloyo was arrested in Lagos and arraigned in a Federal High Court in Rivers State for alleged cybercrime based on a news item she published online believed to have defamed a Port Harcourt-based cleric, Pastor David Ibiyeomie.

Olunloyo, who finally regained her freedom around 3pm, was few weeks ago, granted bail by the court, but had some issues with meeting some of the bail conditions read to her by the court.

Here are first photos of her after regaining freedom yesterday…
