Actor Jet Li pays out £580,000 to family of stunt double killed on set of Expendables 2

Martial arts star, Jet Li has reportedly donated more than half a million pounds to the family of his stunt double who was killed during filming.  Stuntman Liu Kun died on the set of The Expendables 2 in 2011.

Li paid 5.8 million Hong Kong dollars – just under £580,000 – to the 26-year-old’s parents, the Malay Mail reports.

It is unclear as to when the donation was made and the newspaper reports Li had intended to keep it private.

The news comes after Liu’s parents, Liu Zong Yu Liu and Bai Yan Mei, were awarded a meagre HK$195,000, or £19,400, after a protracted court battle lasting four years.

They had filed a wrongful death lawsuit in 2012 against Millennium Films and the movie’s stunt coordinator, following their son’s death.

Stunt double Lui, from Shangxi Province, was killed while filming on the Ognyanovo dam in Bulgaria.

He died from wounds suffered following an on-set explosion nearby.

At the time of Liu’s death, the Bulgarian press reported another stuntman who was the double for Sylvester Stallone was seriously injured during the explosion.
