2019: Female Prof Declares Presidential Ambition

A professor of Language and Communication Arts at the Rivers State University of Education, Prof. Olufumilayo Adesanya-Davies, on Tuesday declared her intention to contest Nigeria’s presidential seat during the 2019 general elections.

Adesanya-Davies, who  is from  Ira,  Kwara State, said  the  sale of  nomination forms free for women aspirants boosted her interest in the race.

She, however, said she was still keeping the platform of the party under which she would contest a secret.

Adesanya-Davies said, “I am aspiring to be the next president of Nigeria. I am out to put laughter of joy in the mouth of all Nigerians. I have discussed this with the former presidential candidate, Sarah Jubril, who incidentally is from Kwara State. Her reaction was that ‘if a miracle like this will ever happen, we have paid the price in Kwara State and it is going to happen in the state.

“Nigeria has opened the ground for the Nigerian women, my ticket is that of Nigerians, as the presidential form is free for women.

“Historically, we will recall in 2015 another woman presidential candidate came, she floated a party called the KOWA party. Her name is Prof. Remi Sonaya, she was my lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University.”

She added, “2015 was when I first thought about being a presidential aspirant. This is for the main reason that I was born on October 15th and I got married on October 15th. That time I said with President Goodluck Jonathan in the Peoples Democratic Party, I was going to be his running mate. I was sending text messages to him. I told him to let the then Vice-President Nnamadi Sambo step down for him to be successful but he did not listen to me.

“But delay is not denial, that is why I am staging a comeback. I have done some consultations. The first person to put a call through was Patience Jonathan. I told her that I am picking the presidential form this time around and she endorsed my decision.

“Our first thanks will go to the nation – Nigeria that says the ladies could pick nomination forms at every level. Nigeria is confident that the current challenges in the country can only be tackled by the women.”

One Response to “2019: Female Prof Declares Presidential Ambition”

  1. Madam, much as I would love to encourage you in this journey, you have started by putting two wrong steps forward. One by contacting the former first lady Patience Jonathan who is not a good example to emulate as a woman, and second by choosing this time to contest.
The time is wrong because Buhari is not performing abysmal low as former President Jonathan was in 2015 . Any sincere, apolitical and intelligent person will know that we are not where we used to be before May 29, 2015, but certainly we are not where we should be yet, and we can’t be there yet in less than 3 years of Buhari’s genuine effort to make Nigeria better than the way he met her in 2015.
Your mentor’s husband, Jonathan and those before him dealt a death knell on Nigeria and it will take times of painstaking and sincere effort to get us out of the woods.
Are we moving forward? Yes we are. But for some people it may appear too slow, but as a graduate of Building Technology from the same university with you, I know it takes a lot of effort to rebuild a badly damaged building than to pull such building down and start building afresh.
Rebuilding Nigeria is what Buhari and Co are doing and I can assure you that it will take some time, going by the decay and rot your party, the PDP left behind. I have chosen to assume that you belong to PDP because you mentioned in your declaration for this highest office in the land that you tried to be a running mate to Jonathan in the last election of 2015.
I wish you the best of luck in your ambition, but I will be rooting for Buhari, not for any personal gain so far, but purely because of my love for my country. If anybody had suffered in the last 16 years of PDP’s misrule, I certainly is one of them, but now I can see some rays of hope, not only for myself but for our children who were turned to prostitutes on the streets of Allen Avenue here in Nigeria and major capitals around the world, and our young men who were turned into “desperados”, taking the risky trip across the Sahara desert to Libya and Europe, due to lack of jobs here at home, while our so-called leaders were busy stealing brazenly our money. God will judge them rightly at the appropriate moment. Amen
