Algeria break 29-year jinx, wins 2019 AFCON

Algeria’s Desert Foxes defeated Senegal 1-0 in the final of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations to emerge winners of the continent’s top football showpiece for a second time, 29 years after they first won it.

Aliou Cisse, the Senegal coach, was captain when the Teranga Lions lost the final to Cameroon in Bamako 17 years ago but had to endure same fate on Friday as he could only watch the trophy slip through his hands at the Cairo International Stadium.

After going behind, Senegal dominated for the remainder of the match but was unable to find an equalizing goal.
