Nigerian governor pays police N30m bounty for catching a criminal

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has redeemed the promise of N30 million bounty he placed on a criminal suspect popularly called Bobosky.

The suspect died at the Rivers State Police Command in Port Harcourt, the state capital, after the police captured him.

Wike, who presented the N30 million cheque to Police Commissioner Joseph Mukan yesterday in Port Harcourt, said he was elated that the police and members of the public worked together to arrest Bobosky.

The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, assured the residents that his administration would continue to work for their safety.

Danagogo said: “Governor Wike will continue to stand by his words, as this is not the first time such redemption is occurring in the state. If we can recall when the governor made a promise over Don Wani, a criminal who disturbed the peace of ONELGA, all security agencies and citizenry were activated to capture him, and the pledge was also redeemed.”

The SSG thanked the police and members of the public for their belief in the governor’s promise to reward all whistleblowers.

“I thank the police officers for the gallantry in arresting the criminals and I also thank the informants who cannot be mentioned here,” he said.

Mukan thanked Wike for fulfilling his promise, the police had sleepless night and exhibited a high level of professionalism throughout the operation that led to the arrest of Bobosky.
