The Nigerian government has ordered mobile telecommunication operators in the country to stop the sale and registration of new SIM cards.
The directive applies to all mobile operators including MTN, Globacom, Airtel and Etisalat.
The directive was contained in a statement by Nigerian Communications Commission.
The NCC said that the move would allow the audit of the country’s Subscriber Registration Database, and would also help the Commission determine the rate of compliance to standard and other requirements set by the commission for SIM Card registration exercise.
