Election: IGP Deploys 34,587 Police Officers To Anambra State

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, yesterday ordered deployment of 34,587 officers to Anambra State ahead of the November 6 governorship election in the state.

They are conventional police officers, Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Special Forces personnel, Explosives Ordinance Unit (EOD), FIB, INTERPOL, Special Protection Unit and Police Medical Teams.

The IGP, who spoke at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, during second strategic police managers’ conference where he met with all Commissioners of Police, also said three police helicopters for aerial surveillance as well as detachments of Marine Police operatives would be deployed.

He said: ‘’We’re firmly committed to partnering with the Independent National Electoral Commission within the dictates of the Electoral Act towards delivering a credible electoral process and outcome.

“In furtherance to this objective, an electoral security threat analysis has been conducted by the Force Intelligence Bureau and based on the outcome of this initiative, we’ve developed a strategic election security operation order which will involve the mobilization and deployment of a total of thirty-four thousand, five hundred and eighty-seven police personnel’’.

He warned that those planning to destabilise the state or scuttle the electoral process should have a rethink.
