The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said that he will not turn down calls for him to contest for the 2023 presidency.
Tinubu stated this in an interview with newsmen shortly after a closed-door meeting with members of the Northern Alliance Committee in Abuja.
Many support groups have sprung up rooting for the heavyweight politician with others calling on him to contest for the presidency.
The former governor of Lagos State, who is yet to formally declare for the presidency, had recently told a founding member of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, that he would be contesting.
On Tuesday, the APC bigwig, however, said he was still consulting and brainstorming with his friends and political associates, adding that at the appropriate time, he would tell Nigerians his intention.
“I’m not going to turn them down, but I will still effectively and widely consult; particularly brainstorm with my friends and find a date to come out openly and tell Nigerians.”
“But the president is still in office. I don’t want to distract him from all the challenges that he might face today.
“So we will consult and make our programme known to the people later and the intention is clear. So you keep guessing,” Tinubu said.
