One month after the “Circus” singer was arrested for driving under the influence in California, the 44-year-old has voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility, a rep for Spears confirmed to E! News April 12.
Last month, the Grammy winner—mom to sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, with ex-husband Kevin Federline—was taken into custody just after 9 p.m. local time on March 4 and released the following morning, according to police records viewed by E! News.
At the time, TMZ, citing law enforcement sources, reported Spears was arrested on DUI charges.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,” Spears rep told E! News in a March 5 statement. “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life.”
“Hopefully,” the message noted, “she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
