I Don’t See Intimacy As A Chore — Ella Emmanuel

Nollywood actress and content creator, Ella Emmanuel, has opened up on her views about love, marriage and intimacy, saying she does not see intimacy as a chore when two people are genuinely in love.

Emmanuel, whose real name is Emmanuella Ebele Onwuegbuzie, made the disclosure in an interview with Potpourri, where she also spoke about her understanding of sensuality, relationships and the importance of mutual respect between partners.

According to the actress, intimacy is an important part of a healthy marriage or committed relationship because it allows couples to connect both emotionally and physically.

“I believe sex is a beautiful and important part of a healthy marriage or committed relationship. It’s one of the deepest ways couples connect emotionally and physically,” she said.

Emmanuel said she finds it difficult to understand situations where couples living under the same roof go for prolonged periods without intimacy, questioning whether such partners are still functioning as lovers or merely as roommates.

“When I hear couples say they haven’t been intimate for one or two months despite living in the same house, I honestly wonder, ‘Are you roommates or lovers?’” she said.

The actress stressed that for her, intimacy should be a natural expression of love rather than an obligation. “If I’m in love with someone and attracted to them emotionally, mentally and physically, I don’t see intimacy as a chore. It’s a natural expression of love,” she added.

Beyond physical intimacy, Emmanuel said successful relationships require mutual respect, transparency, friendship, effective communication and intentionality. She advised couples to see themselves as partners rather than competitors, stressing the importance of supporting one another.

“Partners shouldn’t compete with each other; they should be each other’s biggest supporters. When respect and friendship exist, love has a solid foundation to grow,” she said.

On the issue of sexuality and body confidence, Emmanuel said being sexy goes beyond physical appearance, arguing that confidence, intelligence and self-respect are equally attractive qualities.
