Health Zone : 8 Steps To Get Rid Of That Annoying Mouth Odour!

Is anything worse than seeing people turn their faces away from you or bringing out their handkerchief when you are talking to them? One could easily say, among the things that can get anyone embarrassed in public, bad breathe aka mouth odour, is somewhere up on the list.

Often the odor is caused by bacteria present below the gumline and on the back of the tongue or many different conditions, including disorders in the nasal cavity, sinuses, throat, lungs, esophagus, stomach or elsewhere, says the Wikipedia.

But whether it’s a fleeting case of morning breath or a lingering bout with halitosis, everyone has bad breath sometimes and we all would like to get rid of it…

1. Brush Your Mouth Like Your Momma Told Ya! Yes, you should try to follow the morning and evening toothpaste-on-toothbrush in your mouth routine. You cannot skip brushing your teeth and expect fresh breath. You just have to brush, either with pako or smooth ash, just brush and save us your bad breath! Remember to clean your tongue too!

2. Keep Your Mouth Wet! If your mouth is too dry, the risk of bad breathe resulting is very high. It doesn’t matter if it is day or night. Your mouth needs saliva constantly because it is a natural antibacterial mouth cleanser. Saliva contains oxygen which deters the growth of bacteria. So keep bad breathe at bay by keeping your mouth salivated all day – stay wet in the oral cavity by drinking a lot of water. It has been said that sucking a sweet or chewing gum can also help stimulate saliva production.

3. Avoid Food That Cause Bad Breathe! Some foods like garlic and onions are easily identifiable culprits. Also, also food whose particles are known for sticking around after meals, like meat, should be eaten with caution. These food particles that gather and get stuck between teeth are grounds for reproducing bacteria.

4. Rinse Your Mouth With Plain Water Regularly! Try as much as possible to rinse your mouth with ordinary water as often as possible, after meals inclusive – no matter what you ate, even pap! It helps rebalance your mouth’s pH levels. Allowing food particles to remain in your mouth is one way of inviting bad breathe creating bacteria to settle in.

6. Add Sweet Smelling Fruits To Your Diet! Foods that smell good also make your breath smell good. Your breath will ‘borrow a leaf’ from fruits like banana, watermelons, berries, oranges and other fruits with lots of vitamin C. The bacteria in your mouth are as scared of vitamin C as you are afraid of swallowing poison – it kills them. So the more vitamin C laden foods/fruits you eat the more oral germs you massacre and the better for your breath.

7. Cut Down On The Smoke! Do you know that smokers are more likely to get oral infections which in turn case bad breathe? This is in addition to the fact that smoking causes a build-up of plaque on the average smoker’s teeth. Guess what, plaque is an ideal place to harbour odour-causing bacteria. Smoking also dries out the mouth.

8. Visit The Dentist! If you have tried everything possible, including all in this article and your bad breath is still acute, then it might be time to get your mouth cleaned by a dentist.
